Lands Available For Taxes



LANDS AVAILABLE FOR TAXES - Online Listing

Instructions:

  • Under "Search Options" located on the left side of the page, select "By Status."
  • Under the Current Status drop down box – Select "Lands Available."
  • Click Search Records to complete your search.


Lands available for taxes are properties that have been advertised for sale by the Clerk at public auction, and no bidders appeared at the public sale to purchase the properties. When this happens, the Clerk is required to enter the land on a list called "lands available for taxes" and to notify the Board of County Commissioners and all other persons holding certificates against the land that the land is available.

Any person may purchase property from the list of lands available for taxes. Pursuant to Florida Statute 197.502(7), the county has 90 days after the land is placed on the list to purchase the land for the opening bid. After the 90 days, any person, the county or governmental unit may purchase the land for the opening bid. "Omitted" taxes, plus any accrued interest, documentary stamps, recording and indexing fees will be added to the minimum bid except when the county or other governmental unit is the purchaser for its' own use.

The listing of lands available for taxes is available online. Payment of the total amount owing on the property must be in the form of cash, cashier's check or money order. In order to purchase "lands available for taxes" properties a quote for the current purchase price must be requested from the Tax Deed office. Before requesting a quote, please review the online listing of lands available properties, Lands Available for Taxes - Online Listing. From there, you can see if a current quote is available for said properties. If a quote is available, you will see the document type “LANDS AVAILABLE WORKSHEET” at the bottom of the list of documents. If you do not see this line, then a quote has never been requested for that certificate. Quotes are valid through the date specified in the upper right hand corner of the worksheet. To request a quote for the current purchase price of a property on Lands Available please email: Taxdeed@pinellascounty.org and provide the certificate number of the property, your name and your phone number. Quotes are typically available within 3-5 business days.

OMITTED TAXES:
"Omitted taxes" are those taxes that have not been extended on the tax roll against a parcel of property after the property has been placed on the listing of lands available for taxes. (Section 197.102(2) Florida Statutes.) "Omitted taxes" are paid plus interest.
